Unders is renowned for his 2016 song release titled SYRIA, this track single handedly created new pathways of sound combinations, UNDERS has been breaking music boundaries ever sense, while being an inspiration for others to do the same. SHAWNA, bay area icon and legend, has pathed the way for female DJs and producers around the world to come forward and share musical talents behind the decks, she's been curating and playing music sense 99'. Today Shawna is known for her solo project and duo project titled KMLN, who spearheaded coveted hybrid/live performance that have ignited the organic house sound thriving today. I was 12 when my journey as a DJ began, and since those first sessions of alchemizing sound, I discovered a language of no words, but frequencies, which gave my human experience a true purpose. I am Unders, born in The Netherlands, yet my true roots feel otherworldly. I ́ve been in service as a passionate ambassador of the global dance community for decades. My career took a massive leap when my track ‘Syria’ was picked by Sol Selectas Records and released onto the global stage. Not only did it find a place on the Billboard top ten electronic tracks of 2016, it also unleashed some of the most majestic paths of possibilities in the electronic world. And the portals of invitation have been since never-ending at clubs and festival stages including Robot Heart & Mayan Warrior at Burning Man, AfrikaBurn, Fusion, Garbicz, Awakenings, Amsterdam Dance Event, Woomoon, Coachella, Lightning in a Bottle, SXM Festival, Gardens Of Babylon, and so many more creative gatherings around the globe. My life has become a waking dream, although I sleep very little. I spend many hours travelling, connecting and the rest creating. I am always on a quest for new frequencies, cultures, faces, and places. It is as if the thousands of heartbeats I play for, mix into a symphony and this collective vibration inspires the diversity and depth of the music I offer. My feet have walked all continents, I've played in endless magical stages around the world, from Berlin, São Paolo, Mexico, and Ibiza to New York. And I must say, no matter where I ́m standing in the world, it is the moment i blend what truly resonates and I am eye gazing at an ocean of humans that I feel at home. I have been honored to co-create, play and produce alongside Satori, Mira, Acid Pauli, Boy George, Trentemoller, Booka Shade, Ame, Audiofly, Be Svendsen, Patrice Baumel, Guy Mantzur, Nick Warren, Sasha, and Henrik Schwarz to name but a few. Along the way, I have supported imprints such as Sol Selectas Records, Supernature, UnderYourSkin, Kindisch, and of course, my own: Happy Camper Records, which was founded alongside the Belle of Berlin: Britta Arnold, and the formidably talented producer: Noraj Cue. Happy Camper Records is what encapsulates one of my biggest missions in the music industry: to promote a label that encourages raw talents and to create a container that inspires the artists’ creativity to blossom with awareness in self-care and authenticity. At the age of 16, she began her nomadic life hitchhiking through Mexico, supporting herself by carving found materials and seeds into jewelry. Next at the age of 18 came Thailand, where she learned to fire dance and tattoo, then India to follow her passion for Vipassana meditation, and eventually spending her early 20’s living in Germany and immersing herself in the various cultures of Europe. In 1997, Shawna settled down in the SF/Bay Area where the burgeoning art of fire dancing landed her as a sought-after performer. Constructing her own performance costumes led to starting her own fashion line that became a trend-setting force in the transformational festival scene worldwide. In 1999, she began performing as a DJ, brewing eclectic fusions of global/future bass, dancehall, cumbia, moombahton, house, techno, disco, minimal, and tropical. She quickly became a favorite DJ on the west coast and beyond, performing at some of the most respected festivals including The BPM Festival, Miami Music Week, Amsterdam Dance Event, Lightning in a Bottle, Global Eclipse, Art With Me, Summit Series, Air Festival, Art Basel, Symbiosis Gathering, Shambhala, Wonderfruit, The Gardens Of Babylon, Subsonic, and Meadows in the Mountains. Additionally, she paved the way as one of the first female DJs at Burning Man back in the late 90’s and has since graced the decks of many legendary art cars including Robot Heart, Mayan Warrior, and Abraxis. She has also played noteworthy venues The Brooklyn Mirage, Flash Club, Klein, The Grand Factory, Scorpios, Woomoon, Papaya Playa, Do Not Sit on the Furniture, The Midway, Monarch, Public Works, Katerblau, Open Studios, and Sisyphos. Since 2013, Shawna has combined forces with Italian DJ/producer Tooker as the group KMLN (pronounced “chameleon”), known for their coveted hybrid/live performance that pioneered the organic house sound thriving today. The duo’s releases on major labels like Sol Selectas, Crosstown Rebels, Ouïe, Touch of Class, and Bar 25, have received support from artists such as Solomun, Acid Pauli, Damian Lazarus, &ME, Rampa, David Meyer, and Bedouin. Additionally, they have collaborated with the likes of Mira, Christopher Schwarzwalder, Nico Stojan, NU, Sabo, Viken Arman, Francesca Lombardo, and Eduardo de La Calle. Recently, Shawna and Tooker have also been reinventing their solo projects and exploring other collaborations. Always cross-pollinating through various scenes around the globe and pioneering the cutting edge sounds of the future, Shawna has proven herself as a multi-faceted artist that has left her mark and continues to push boundaries.
