Description

The Preservation Society has been closely watching the Union Pier project for months. We are deeply concerned that the current plan lacks a vision for addressing community needs, climate resilience, public space, and inclusivity, in particular.  On Thursday, May 11, you’re invited to a community workshop with the Preservation Society to learn more and share your ideas for a better way forward for Union Pier. We’ll briefly discuss the Union Pier project’s path through the city process, then continue the conversation on how we can improve the plan. This event is free and open to friends and neighbors, the format is relaxed as we gather ideas for a community-first vision for Union Pier that addresses resident needs, climate resilience, public space, and more. Input from the public is critical in crafting the best possible outcome of this massive redevelopment. This is not a developer-led or a city-sponsored event. We’re working with our nonprofit partners at the Coastal Conservation League and Historic Charleston Foundation to find a better way forward for Union Pier and we need your help. Please join us at this open house, by the community for the community, and bring us your ideas of what Union Pier could do and be for Charleston and its residents. Community Workshop on a Better Way Forward for Union Pier May 11, 2023, at 5:30-7:30 p.m. St. Julian Devine Community Center 1 Cooper St. Light refreshments will be provided
