The 29th Annual African, African American, and Caribbean Studies Summer Institute is a yearly event created and provided by the Palm Beach County School District Office of African, African American, Latino, Holocaust, and Gender Studies. Our theme is, Get it Right: The Journey of Self-Reflection and Transformation for Educators and Leaders. The aim of the institute is to guide educators, leaders, and community stakeholders through the process of examining their beliefs and practices around creating environments conducive to all learning types. Additionally, we will be providing guidelines to schools on how to meet the requirements of FS 1003.42 (h). This year's scheduled events are as follows: June 20th: 8:00 am - 2:30 pm Workshops Sessions by: Brian Knowles, Manager - African, African American, Latino, and Holocaust Studies Dr. Yolanda Sealey - Ruiz, Author, Researcher, and Associate Professor at Teachers College, Columbia University.Dr. Bianca Nightengale Lee, Researcher and Associate Professor at Florida Atlantic University June 21st: 8:00 am - 2:30 pm Workshop Sessions by: Dr. Jermaine Scott, Researcher and Associate Professor at Florida Atlantic University Micheal Woodard, Author, and Educator Nicholas Coodington, Director, Education and Public Programs · U.S. National Archives and Records AdministrationJune 21st: 5:00 - 8:30 pm Community Forum: It Takes a Village: Community Responsibility in Black Student Achievement Jazz performance by: The Greg Satterhwaite QuartetCommunity Panel Discussion led by: Debra Robinson, M.D., Former School Board Member and current Chair of the Coalition for Black Student Achievement Steve White, Author, educator, and mentor Akbar Watson, Educator and bookstore owner June 22nd: 8:00 am - 2:30 pm The Diversity of the Diaspora: The Cultures and Languages of the Caribbean Workshop Sessions by: Mathew Jean, LMFT, Mental Health, and Family counselor Alyssa Jean, EdD, Owner and founder of Jeanius Consulting LLC Student Panel: Addressing the needs of students from the Hati and the English Speaking Caribbean as they transition into American public schools. June 23rd: 8:00 am - 4:30 pm Palm Beach County Black Historical Experience: Hosted by the Palm Beach County African Diaspora Historical and Cultural Society and the Spady Cultural Heritage Museum **More details to come***
