Historian David Fiske will talk about the interesting life of Abner Doubleday, a native of Ballston Spa, NY. A commission once determined that Doubleday invented the game of baseball, but if he made any contribution at all to America’s pastime, it was minimal. Apart from that, Doubleday served for decades as an Army officer, wrote a number of books, and was involved with a society devoted to promoting peace and understanding. In addition to discussing Doubleday's achievements, Fiske will explain why it was ever believed that he created baseball. This free talk will take place at the "Doubleday House," where he lived as an infant.
