Description

New Orleans resilience planning has successfully prepared a series of innovative pilot projects in parks and open spaces throughout the city but has not yet moved towards systematically incorporating these elements within the street spaces of the city. Panelists will detail resilient street design innovations and options. Panelists will also detail findings from their research and recent publication, “Adaptation Urbanism and Resilient Communities”. Through a series of detailed case studies, their work uncovers the promise and tensions of a new wave of resilient communities in Europe and the United States. The authors highlight how these communities are reinventing the role of streets and connecting public spaces in adapting to and mitigating climate change through green/blue infrastructure planning, maintaining and enhancing sustainable transportation options, and struggling to ensure equitable aspects to encouraging adaptation urbanism. Advancing resilience policy discourse through multidisciplinary framework, this work will be of interest to students and practitioners of resilience.
