About the Program: Positive Approach to Care Dementia Training provides educational content to empower healthcare personnel to provide optimal care. Learner engagement strategies include question/answers, hands on skills, and role playing. Learning Objectives: Recognize normal vs. not normal agingDemonstrate Hand under Hand TM method to gain trust and re-establish the individual’s skillsRecognize and focus on remaining strengths and guide individuals to utilize them while considering curiosity and safety awarenessLearn how to not escalate individuals and how to de-escalate when escalatedIntroduction to the “GEMS” ScaleAbout the Speaker: Pamela Longmire, RT, BSHA, Certified Dementia Practitioner and Instructor (CDP & CADDCT), Positive Approach to Care (PAC), Music and Memory, Validation, Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement Specialist has over 30 years experience in health care. She managed federal contracts for several years helping long-term-care facilities in Alaska, Hawaii, Guam, Samoa, Saipan, the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, Montana and Wyoming successfully train staff in quality improvement and navigate regulatory oversight. Pamela combines her knowledge and best practice training methods to bring internationally recognized skills to those providing care in Montana. Pamela’s passion is improving the lives of Montana’s aging population. Having lost her father to vascular dementia and now helping care for her mother with Alzheimer’s dementia, Pamela has a strong personal interest in helping individuals with this disease and keeping current on best practices. Accreditation Statement: 4 Contact Hours from University of MT This nursing continuing professional development activity was approved by Montana Nurses Association, an accredited approver with distinction by the American Nurses Credentialing Center's Commission on Accreditation. In order to receive 4.0 nursing contact hours, participants must provide their contact information and profession during sign-in, attend the program, and submit an evaluation.
