The Greenville Symphony presents Artists Up Close with three concerts called Gratitude, Faith, and Courage. Formerly known as Spotlight Chamber Music, Artists Up Close features artists from the orchestra. Greenville Symphony Orchestra will present the third and final concert of the 75th anniversary season in the Artists Up Close series on Friday, May 5 at 7:30 pm, and Sunday, May 7 at 3:00 pm. The performances will take place at Greenville’s Fine Arts Center. Lisa Kiser, Greenville Symphony Principal Keyboard, and Anneka Zuehlke-King, Greenville Symphony Principal Horn, join the principal strings and woodwinds of the orchestra for the program. The music for the program was selected as a narrative on the theme of courage. It includes South Carolina composer Jon Jeffrey Grier’s 2009 work for a piano quintet which is entitled Overcoming, a rhapsody on “We Shall Overcome,” as well as Shostakovich, Messaien, Ravel, Joe Hisaishi, and Meira Warshauer.
