May 2023 AFP Arkansas Education Session Social Media Dos & Don'ts with Michelle Barns Join AFP Arkansas at Arkansas Foodbank as Michelle Barnes shares her expertise on everything to do with social media. Michelle is a native of Strong, Arkansas. She is the founder of Real Images; a nonprofit with the mission to ensure that young girls and women are empowered and educated to become the healthiest versions of themselves through programs, scholarships and service. Through her vision, Real Images is celebrated in Arkansas as a connector for women to be as inspired and powerful as ever. Real Images hosts networking events, moderated discussions, an annual luncheon honoring local women and an annual run & walk that brings awareness to women’s fertility struggles. Real Images also supports a strong self confidence in young girls through the MIRROR Project. MIRROR (Maintaining Images Reflecting Responsibility, Optimism & Respect) has served over 200 school-aged girls with self-image workshops that addresses self-awareness, media & imagery, relationships, and careers. All students of the MIRROR curriculum are eligible to receive a MIRROR Award in the amount of up to $1,000 to practice a passion within the areas of art, business, or education. Michelle is also the operations manager at Arkansas Research Alliance (ARA). ARA is public-private partnership investing in research that stimulates innovation, encourages collaboration, and strengthens economic opportunity. Michelle has previously served as director of housing at Our House and community developer at the Arkansas School for Mathematics, Sciences, and the Arts (ASMSA). She has been on the boards of Central Arkansas Team Care for the Homeless (CATCH), Lucie’s Place, and Pulaski County CASA. Michelle has been recognized by the Young Nonprofit Professionals Network- Little Rock as a 20 Over 20 nonprofit professional. She is a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., Junior League Little Rock and Leadership Greater Little Rock Class XXXV.
