Free Monthly Tours - No Registration Required, All Ages WelcomeJoin Whatcom County Master Gardeners for a fun and informative tour of the Hovander Demonstration Gardens. Learn about the history of the gardens and about future plans for renovation and expansion.There's always something new happening in our gardens, and what you'll see changes daily. The garden is open from 8 am to 8 pm seven days a week, and we have free Saturday tours between 12 noon and 1:30 pm once a month from May through September. Come on out and learn more about gardening in Whatcom County, we'd love to see you!Tour Dates:Saturday May 20Saturday June 17Saturday July 15Saturday August 19Saturday September 16Time: 12 noon - 1:30 pmTour topics will include:• History of the Hovander family and their legacy• Why Hovander soil is incredibly fertile• A walking tour of twelve garden areas designed and managed for educational outreach• Sustainable practices to conserve water, grow food, provide food and habitat for pollinators, preserve plant biodiversity and soil fertility• View a master plan for building easily navigated trails that will connect all garden areas and provide for development of future teaching gardensFeel free to bring a lunch or snack to enjoy in the garden after class.
