Behind the Screen: Film Scoring w/Ben Sollee Wednesday, May 31 | The Music District | 6-8 pm Learn about a specialized & unique corner of the music industry: film scoring, from Ben Sollee, critically acclaimed composer, cellist, and touring artist. Ben will walk through his process of creating music for film in an interactive session: Phase I: How to connect with filmmakers, what to expect, & what it takes to get the gig.Phase II: Approaching a film score & slaying the creative process (how this may differ from writing a song or an album, for example).Phase III: Wrapping the project and key takeaways.Over the last two decades, Kentuckian Ben Sollee has distinguished himself as multi-faceted creative, blurring the lines between music, tech, and experiential design. Since his debut record in 2008, Sollee has released 6 studio records and nearly 10 EPs garnering praise from the New York Times and NPR. Sollee has a growing career as a composer for film, tv, and interactive media earning a Emmy Award in 2018 for his score on the ABC special Base Ballet. Sollee’s composing voice is also showcased in films such as Maidentrip (2013) and Beauty Mark (2018). In 2013, he teamed up with composer Christopher Young on Killing Season, featuring Robert Dinero and John Travolta. Sollee infused his unique cello styling into the film’s score and wrought the original song Letting Go. Ever the collaborator, Sollee’s latest score for Robin Wright’s directorial debut LAND finds him teaming up with contemporary string trio Time for Three.
