PSYCHOLOGICAL FIRST AID (PFA) is a technique for assisting people in the immediate aftermath of traumatic incident or disaster. PFA is designed to reduce the initial distress caused by the traumatic event and to foster short and long-term coping skills. Gilroy Strong Resiliency Center certified instructors are piloting this evidence-informed training to help service providers working with adolescents who may experience a traumatic incident or disaster. ABOUT THE FACILITATORS: Matthew T Rensi, Ph.D., LPCC, is a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor who holds a Ph.D. in counselor education and supervision. He has extensive experience providing therapy to people struggling with psychosis, homelessness, various mental health issues and the legal system. Mathew provides trainings throughout Santa Clara County on various aspects of mental health treatment including assessment, individual therapy, and safety/crisis situations. Martha McNiel is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist who serves as the Clinical Coordinator for the GSRC and is the Director of DreamPower Horsemanship. She has extensive experience working with first responders and critical incident response.
