Paddle the Pacolet! Clifton Beach to Upper Pacolet Shoals Skill Level: Easy to Moderate Rapids: Class I, II Length: 8.0 miles (trip times vary according to vessel type, river level, and paddling style) Timeframe: 4-5 hours Experience picturesque views of riverbanks lined with wildflowers, forests and historic sites as you take a relaxing journey through the calm waters of the Pacolet River. The majority of this stretch of the Pacolet River includes lazy waters with occasional Class I and II rapids as the river approaches the town of Pacolet Mills. The downstream Upper and Lower Pacolet Shoals Dams create lake-like paddling conditions as the river gets closer to Pacolet Mills. This stretch is primarily rural in scenery. The section of the river you will be paddling is part of the Pacolet River and Lawson’s Fork Creek Blueway Trail which provides over 50 miles of river travel and recreation beginning near downtown Spartanburg and extending close to Charleston, SC along the Broad River. This blueway project was started in 2008 by the Palmetto Conservation Foundation and its partners, the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources and Spartanburg County. This watershed supports many uncommon plants and animals, including the federally listed Bunched Arrowhead, bog turtle, and Carolina heelsplitter. The blueway is also a good reminder of the textile industry that once ruled the area, with historic mill sites seen along the banks of the old mill villages in Glendale, Clifton, Pacolet, and Lockhart. Vintage View Adventures offers multiple styles of kayaks for rent and will take care of everything you need for this full-day (4-5 hour) adventure that includes equipment and shuttle service. Your safety and enjoyment are our top priorities! What’s Included? Life vests (PFDs) for youth and adults, the shuttle trip upstream, kayak(s) and paddle(s) are included in your rental fee. What to Know All trips/rentals begin at Upper Pacolet Shoals Take Out - 1461 Sunny Acres Road, Pacolet, SC 29372. This is where you will park vehicles and meet Trip Coordinator/Shuttle Driver.All Vintage View trips/rentals are SELF-GUIDED unless the customer specifically requests someone to guide their trip in advance.You are encouraged to paddle at your leisure. Half-Day (2-hour trips) must arrive at Upper Pacolet Shoals Take-Out within four hours of entry on water. Full-Day (4-hour trips) must arrive within 6 hours of entry on the water.Vintage View Adventures will expect all guests/participants to complete/sign waiver and watch brief informational and safety orientation video prior to arriving.It is the responsibility of the customer to ensure all parties within their group wear their life vest / PFD while on the river. Vintage View Adventures requires all customers to wear life vests at all times while on waterways. For safety and liability, children under the age of five (5) years old cannot be allowed in rental equipment.
