Winemaker Tasting Featuring Wiley Wines Presented by owner & winemaker Phineas Fittipaldi Friday, May 12, 5-7 pm open house, Wine Republic Tickets: free, wine club members | $10 non-members Phineas Fittipaldi is the owner and winemaker of Wiley Wines, a new producer hitting the market! He worked at an at risk youth center before diving into the wine world. After spending time bartending, he was inspired by boutique wine bars around the U.S. and went all in and opened Troubadour wine bar in Uptown in 2015 (he built all of the tables & furnishings himself). Determined to learn more about the craft of winemaking, he connected with Matthew Rorick of Forlorn Hope, who gave him the opportunity to work during the 2017 harvest in CA. Phineas purchased a small amount of Picpoul and Chardonnay from him and made his first orange wine! Through his connections in MN, he sold his first bottles and needless to say, Minnesotans loved it. After a few more years going out to work harvests, he sold Troubadour in 2019. He then got the opportunity to work for I. Brand Wines and help at Matthiasson as a vineyard intern, landing back in MN to launch Wiley Wines in 2021. He focuses on 6 different single vineyard wines from throughout CA. Wiley Wines Bengier Family Vineyard Ribolla Gialla, ’21 Our Ribolla Gialla is organically farmed in the Oak Knoll District. The destemmed fruit was fermented and aged with the skins for 10 months in amphora, then racked once before bottling. The wine in unfined and unfiltered, with minimum sulfur added before bottling. Wiley Wines Riesling Wirz Vineyard Riesling, ’21 Produced from old bush vines that are dry farmed in the Cienega Valley. The Riesling is directly pressed to be aged and fermented in amphora for 8 months. In the style of a Feinberb Riesling from the Mosel, (Germany) we stop fermentation to leave a touch of residual sugar. The wine filtered and not aged on lees. Wiley Wines Linda Vista Chardonnay, ‘21 Our Chardonnay comes from the organically farmed Linda Vista Vineyard. The grapes are direct to press to be fermented and aged in amphora on the lees for 10 months. Minimal sulfur added before bottling. Wine is unfined and unfiltered. Wiley Wines De Rose Vineyard Cabernet Franc, ‘21 Our Cabernet Franc is sourced from a small organic family vineyard in Cienega Valley. Our Cabernet franc is fermented whole cluster then pressed off early to finish in neutral French oak for 9 months. The wine is unfined and unfiltered with minimal sulfur. Wiley Wines Peynara Vineyard Grenache, ‘21 Our Grenache is sourced from a small family vineyard with organic practives in San Benito County. Our Grenache is fermented whole cluster, then pressed off early to finish in neutral French oak for 9 months. The wine is unfined and unfiltered with minimal sulfur. Wiley Wines Rodnick Vineyard Mourvèdre, ‘21 Organically farmed in the Western slopes of the Gabilan Mountains, our Mourvèdre is fermented whole cluster and pressed off before it’s dry to finish fermentation in neutral French oak for 9 months. Wine is unfined and unfiltered with minimal sulfur.
