The Hispanic Metropolitan Chamber would like to invite you to this year's Scholarship Award Luncheon on May 19, 2023, from 11:30-1:30 pm doors will open at 11:00 pm. To date, the Hispanic Chamber has awarded almost $3 million to over 1,100 Latino students in Oregon and SW Washington. Some of these scholarships are matched by public and private colleges and universities. We will be accompanied by our keynote speaker, Dr. Jose Coll Dean of the School of Social Work and Interim Dean of the College of Education of Portland State University. Dr. Coll was born in Havana, Cuba and migrated to the United States during the 1980 Mariel Boat Lift. After serving as a noncommissioned officer in the United States Marine Corps, he completed a bachelor’s degree in Social Work from Saint Leo University, his master’s degree in Social Work from the University of Central Florida, and a Ph.D. in Counseling Education and Supervision from the University of South Florida. Dr. Coll is the current Dean of the School of Social Work at Portland State University. His research interests are on worldview development and counseling veterans, focusing on veteran transition. HMC's Latino Scholarship Program focuses on providing a long-term source of college scholarships for high-achieving eligible Latino students. In 2022, HMC awarded $161,273 to 54 students.
