Comic books give us heroes, villains, characters, and stories that we can all connect with. All ages, all cultures, all communities are represented in comic books. Join the independent comic book creators of Hampton Roads at Slover Library as we celebrate indie comic books! Comic artists and creators, sellers, and cosplayers will be on-site to share their art and skills. Do you think you know your geek trivia? Bring your best nerdy, geeky self to our Geek Trivia Contest, hosted by 'Do You Speak Geek?' podcast host, Nix. Win prizes, gift certificates, and comic book swag! Special cosplaying guests Navy Montel and VioletteVerse! 9:00 AM -- Artists and creators arrive at Slover for setup. Please check in with staff in the 1st floor lobby. 10:00 AM—Event begins! • Artists begin selling • Craft table (Slover) • Coloring table (Slover) 11:00 AM “Sketch Duel—Battle of the Creators” Four of our talented artists will be given a random character to sketch. They will have 20 minutes to sketch. The winner will be chosen by the other participants and Slover patrons. Winner gets bragging rights as the Best Sketch Duelist. The sketches will be on display in Slover and available for purchase. All proceeds will be given to the Friends of the Library. 1:00 PM – 2:00 PM “How to Create Your First Comic Strip” workshop by Stormy of StormyGail Art. Have you wanted to create a comic but didn't know where to start? Lost your creative sense of direction? Unsure what goes into the making of a comic? Join Stormy of StormyGail Art to help find your path! This session will go over the basic process of comic creation. 2:00 PM – 3:00 PM “How to Create Your Own Podcast” workshop with podcaster Nix from “Do You Speak Geek?” podcast. Whether you prefer Star Wars over Star Trek, Xbox over PlayStation, or Subbed over Dubbed, Nix from “Do You Speak Geek?” connects to the geek in you! Join Nix as he talks about podcasting, how to start your own podcast, the equipment needed, and how to get started with your own successful show.” 3:00 PM – 4:00 PM “Geek Trivia Game” Join us for a trivia battle unlike any other! Podcaster and YouTuber Nix from “Do You Speak Geek?” and cosplayer Navy Montel will host the most amazing, challenging, and fun geek trivia competition the 757 has ever seen! Questions will start off easy at “Street Level” and work their way up to “Omega Level.” Only those with the most Geek trivia knowledge will survive to win the ultimate prize, their own podcast episode, on site, with Nix! (Plus geek prizes and swag, of course!) Are YOU geek enough to win? 4:00 PM-- Event closes. Artists pack up.
