Description

Breaking the cycle of poverty. Join us for a conversation with Andrew DeFranza, Executive Director of Harborlight Homes. Harborlight Homes is a non-profit MA certified Community Development Corporation (CDC) which creates, preserves, and manages affordable housing on Cape Ann and across the North Shore. The mission states that Harborlight “collaborates with communities to cultivate just, equitable and sustainable housing opportunities vital to the health and strength of the individuals and communities of our entire region.” We have all heard about the “affordable housing crisis” – but what does this mean for businesses, towns, the economy and, most importantly, our neighbors in need? How did we get here and what can we do to mitigate it? Why does it matter – for all of us? Hear from the organization “in the trenches” doing this work; ask your questions about what is being done in our North Shore communities to meet the affordable housing needs of our elderly, essential workers, and those struggling with homelessness. To date Harborlight provides 459 homes, housing over 650 people, and has housing or is creating housing in 12 communities; they currently have 10 projects in the pipeline which will provide over 400 more units. The housing waitlist for Harborlight alone has over 600 names. The need is great and impacts us all. Learn the impact & importance of affordable housing in this interactive discussion. Light fare and beverages will be provided.
