Description
WYANDANCH, NY — Calling all artists!
The Babylon Citizens Council on the Arts (BACCA) is partnering with the Albanese Development Corporation to work on adding outdoor public art elements at a senior living community currently under construction at 11 Park Drive in Wyandanch — and local artists are invited to help with the project.
The artist that is chosen will submit designs for a wall of sculptural fencing and illuminated screens, as well as other sculptural elements. It is not necessary for the artist to be able to fabricate their proposed design.
There are four elements to the project including; art panels that form a semi-circular fence, a free-standing sculpture, mosaic pavement surface, and a custom fence for a courtyard. The group is looking for the art to focus on the history and culture of Wyandanch.
Although all Long Island artists are invited to submit designs, special consideration will be given to those living in Wyandanch and the other hamlets in the Town of Babylon, or those with a connection to the Wyandanch community. The selected artist will receive a $1,000 stipend.
Artists must email their intention to apply by Saturday, Jan. 30 and their final application is due no later than Friday, Feb. 26. The project design committee will review all submissions, and the top three designers selected for consideration will be contacted to schedule an interview during the week of March 8-12.
