Assistant Camera Training is your introduction to camera equipment used on set and what it takes to be a 1st AC and a member of the camera department. Our industry veterans will guide you step-by-step through the prep process, how to communicate with your team and cast/crew, and share tips and tricks that will save you years of learning these skills on your own. You will learn: How to prep a camera packageHow to prep a lensWhat to get for your AC KitHow to work with a rental houseHow to lay marks & crew communicationHow to setup your focus monitorHow to interact with others on setThis is a technical training and will not focus on creative aspects of camera work. Lunch will be provided. You are responsible for lodging and transportation. To provide a comprehensive training experience, we are limiting registrations to 10 people. This is an introductory training, but on set experience in some capacity is recommended. MEET BRUCEBruce James Bales is a Cinematographer living and working in Des Moines, IA. Growing up on rollerblades with a camera in his hands gave Bruce a unique perspective on the moving image. After studying English Literature Bruce set out on a filmmaking path and has not looked back, completing over 30 short films and 3 feature length films. As the owner of DEFT Productions, Bruce has also helped produce and direct numerous commercials and music videos. As a cinematographer Bruce prides himself in taking a poetic approach, communicating clearly with directors and departments, and providing everyone an environment to do their best work. Most of all, Bruce enjoys making films with his friends. When not on set you can find him on the ice rink with his adult league hockey team, making photographs, traveling, and drinking good espresso.
