Description

*** Please also register for this event and sign the electronic waiver on AMC’s website*** Overview Join the young members (20s and 30s) of the AMC's New York / North Jersey chapter for an exciting weekend at the AMC's Fire Island Cabin! Come paddle, hike, do yoga, sail, and explore the rugged beauty of dunes, salt marshes and Atlantic Ocean beaches on this protected barrier island that is part of the Fire Island National Seashore. The island has no cars or roads, and the Cabin is accessible only by ferry from Bay Shore to Atlantique (see details below). Lodging The Cabin has two 11-bunk co-ed dorm rooms with mattresses, blankets and pillows. Outdoor air is well-circulated within the cabin at all times via screened windows and ceiling fans. There is a large, well-stocked commercial kitchen and indoor eating area, two bathrooms, hot outdoor showers, decks, beach chairs and umbrellas, a hammock, yoga equipment, and a gazebo with a library and board games. For water enthusiasts, there are kayaks, canoes, and stand up paddle boards. Check-in: 3 p.m. on Friday Check-out: while the bunks must be vacated by 10:30 a.m. on Sunday, guests can store their luggage and enjoy the cabin and the island for the rest of the day. The Cabin has a BYOB policy with alcoholic beverages permitted at happy hour and dinner. Because our Cabin is volunteer-run, all guests help with simple chores such as sweeping, emptying the dishwasher, or meal preparation and clean-up. Activities We are excited to offer hikes to the Sunken Forest or the Fire Island Lighthouse, yoga in our tranquil gazebo, sailing on our sloop (weather permitting), exploration of local towns, and watching the sunset from the Cabin deck. In addition to the scheduled activities, you are welcome to choose your own adventure and spend your time however you see fit, kayaking on the bay or simply chilling on the beach. Cost for 2 nights from Friday through Sunday AMC Member: $180 Non-member: $220 This includes overnight lodging in an 11-person bunk-style dorm on Friday and Saturday nights; Friday happy hour (crudites, dips, cheese and crackers), Saturday dinner, and self-serve continental breakfasts Saturday and Sunday; use of shared kitchen for lunch preparation; beach equipment, yoga equipment, canoe, kayak, stand up paddle board, sailboats (authorized users). Refunds are available upon request up to two weeks out from the start of the event. After that date, refunds are not guaranteed and will be granted on a case-by-case basis. You can become a member for $25 if you are under 30 years old, and $50 if you are 30 or older. Please ensure you have an active membership before selecting the member rate.
