Thomas currently resides in Columbia, South Carolina with his wife Anne Griffin. Our second speaker will be Karolynn Cionek of Givation. In December 2014, a group of ladies gathered for a Christmas cookie exchange. As typical with a baking frenzy, there were way too many cookies and someone declared, “we have enough, let’s share.” The excess cookies were packaged up and distributed to a low-income, senior living facility in our community. One good deed quickly turned into another and GIVATION was created as a 501c3 nonprofit organization to coordinate more people, contributions and energies around a different local charity, community organization or group of people in need every month. From collecting items, packaging and distributing goodie bags for 6,000 bootcamp soldiers heading home for the holidays to hosting a back to school bash for children in a homeless shelter; from selling plates of BBQ and raising funds for homeless veterans to playing bingo with low-income seniors; from building raised vegetable gardens for an abused women’s shelter to delivering care packages to parents with preemies in the NICU, GIVATION has helped thousands of people in need of kindness within our community through generous donations and volunteer efforts. Each give is different, but every give makes a difference. I handle the details, you determine what you can give – financial, time, talent or even words of encouragement – and when you can give it. Our choices for May’s lunch are Strawberry Poppyseed Salad with Chicken or Tuna Salad Sandwich for $15.50. Click here for the club contact!
