In this 2-hour, beginner-level plant-dye workshop taught by natural dyer, Elana Bloom, we will learn the basic natural dye technique of bundle dyeing with ethically-foraged desert plants, kitchen scraps, and blossoms to make our own beautiful bundle-dyed silks. Bundle dyeing is the art of wrapping plants in pre-treated fiber and steaming it to extract exquisite colors and prints. Participants will make 2 naturally dyed silk scarves, one in bright warm tones and one in cool earthy tones. Participants will gain the following:An introduction to natural dye plants, available in your backyard and kitchen.An introduction on treating silk for dyeing.How to wrap and steam bundles to extract colors and pretty floral prints.How to alter color results by using modifiers.How to care for lovingly plant dyed pieces for longevity.Participants will make two silk pieces of their own to take home, along with a packet that includes how to start a natural dye practice on their own and how to bundle dye at home. About Elana Elana is a natural dyer and artist living in Tucson, Arizona. She has been dyeing full-time for four years and teaching natural dye classes since 2021. She greatly enjoys sharing the wonderful art and science of dyeing with people of all ages and walks of life.
