The Village of Hope Inaugural Awards & Scholarship Fundraising Banquet will honor the spirit of Chief Leon E. Frazier, who began his career in Ohio and became a pioneering law enforcement officer. After returning to Alabama, the state where he was born, he befriended Civil Rights icon, Amelia Boynton Robinson and together they founded the Village of Hope, an organization based on their shared vision and values. Chief Frazier passed away in 2022. However, his commitment to service and youth leadership development lives on. His widow, Bernice Frazier, has established the Village of Hope Inaugural Awards & Scholarship Fundraising Banquet, "Celebrating a Mighty Fine Human Being" (a greeting by Leon that was a term of endearment.) The event will honor four "mighty fine human beings" who exemplify outstanding qualities. The 2023 inaugural award recipients are: Macon County Sheriff Andre Brunson, Tuskegee historian Guy Trammell and youth activists Elise Tolbert and Omari Neal.
