Description
ArtYard and the Frenchtown Bookshop are excited to announce that Jackie Venson, a blazing guitarist and singer from Austin, Texas, will be bringing her band to Frenchtown. The performance will take place at 7 PM on Sunday, June 25, at ArtYard’s McDonnell Theater. Jackie Venson “combines blues, rock, R&B, and soul to create a combustible cocktail” that won her Musician of the Year honors at the Austin Music Awards, which cited her “trademark joy” with audiences. Forbes Magazine called her a “legend in the making.” In her words, her performances communicate “joy and love unfiltered” and “shades of color no one has named and notes that dance all around me.” She is the first Black artist ever to be named Best Guitarist at the Austin Music Awards. She has traveled the world, playing to large crowds as a headliner and as support for headliners ranging from Melissa Etheridge to Earth Wind & Fire and the Doobie Brothers. During the pandemic, she released five albums, including a recording of her national television debut on Austin City Limits 46th season. During that time, her songs were heard by more than 1.5 million people on streaming platforms, making her one of Pollstar’s Top Music Live streamers of 2020. Although she trained as a classical pianist and graduated from the prestigious Berklee College of Music as a composer, she has skyrocketed to international touring as a high-energy electric guitarist and songwriter. In the words of She Shreds Magazine, her performances are “bound together by her standout guitar riffs, limitless songwriting, and commitment to genuineness.” Her appearances include SXSW, the John Coltrane International Jazz and Blues Festival, and theaters worldwide. Jackie Venson is a multi-instrumentalist, singer/songwriter known far and wide for her complexly beautiful music and blazing guitar skills. Born and raised in Austin, Texas, Jackie has traveled the world playing to massive crowds both as a headliner and as support for major acts such as Gary Clark Jr., Melissa Etheridge, Aloe Blacc, and Citizen Cope to name a few. With the disruption of the COVID-19 pandemic, the cancellation of her entire tour schedule, and the wave of social change sweeping across the country in 2020, Jackie committed herself to releasing more music than ever before, connecting with her fans directly and speaking up about the change she wanted to see in her city and country. Since then, Jackie has released two studio albums, two live albums under her name and several electronic albums under her side project titled jackie the robot. During the pandemic, Jackie also made her national TV performance debut on Austin City Limits' 46th season, a huge honor for the native Austinite. Venson’s most recent release, “Love Transcends,” Venson firmly established herself as a sonic force to be reckoned with.
