Description
This is a permablitz organized by Philly Permablitz! So what's a permablitz, you might ask? A permablitz is an informal gathering involving a day on which a group of people come together to achieve the following: create or add to edible gardens based on principles and ethics of permacultureshare skills related to permaculture and sustainable livingbuild community of like-minded peoplehave fun!Who can come to a permablitz? Anyone and everyone can come to a permablitz, and there is never any cost to participate. Never picked up a shovel? No worries! We especially welcome first time gardeners. Skill level and physical ability aren’t problems at all. Just come and contribute any way you are able. You’re sure to meet interesting, friendly people of many stripes and persuasions at a permablitz. Kids are welcome to attend but must be supervised at all times. What will happen on the day of the blitz? What will my role be? Every blitz is a little different, but each blitz is focused around implementing various parts of a permaculture design. During this blitz we are planning to have groups of people working on the following projects (among other things, hopefully): Finishing planting out a rain gardenDigging up and potting up native trees and shrubsPlanting native and edible shrubsYour role will be to learn about whatever tasks we are doing from the blitz facilitators, and then jump in and help do them! Attending a blitz is not a passive experience, so only attend if you plan on helping out and getting involved. You will probably learn a lot along the way! What should I bring? Once you sign up for this event, the blitz facilitator will reach out to all the attendees to see who can bring what tools and resources. All tools you bring should be labeled at the start of the blitz so they can be easily identified and returned to whoever brought. Unless you have special dietary needs, a picnic-style lunch will be provided. Snacks, coffee, tea, and other drinks will be provided by the hosts. Feel free to bring your own lawn/folding chair if you wish. The most important thing to bring is a positive attitude and a willingness to jump into whatever projects are going on at the blitz! Work gloves, a water bottle, a hat, and sunscreen would be a good ideas as well. About the Site & Our Hosts (Robin and Mike) The site is a 10 acre homestead in a residential area in Wrightstown, PA (Bucks County). There is quite a bit of slope on the site with a creek running through the middle of the property and a large pasture area in the back of the property. Robin and Mike both received their permaculture design certificates from Hundred Fruit Farm in 2022 and will be our hosts/facilitators for the blitz day. The design was created in the permaculture design course by other students in the class, and has been amended by Robin and Mike with input from Adam Dusen. About the Facilitators Adam and Mike/Robin will act as co-facilitators for the blitz. Adam received his permaculture design certificate from The Panya Project in 2008 and runs Hundred Fruit Farm in Buckingham.
