CLASS: Writing a Half-Hour Comedy Pilot PREREQUISITE: Open to all PRICE: $50 DATE/TIME: May 7th | 1-4 pm | Single Session LOCATION: The Independent | Ant Hall | Front Entrance INSTRUCTOR: Josie Suhs Description Josie Suhs is a comedian, improviser, writer, and producer. She spent 7 years in Los Angeles working toward her goal of writing for comedy television. While there, she took several classes including: spec writing, pilot writing, pitching, and sketch writing. She's written, produced, and directed a web series entitled "Jesse and the Cockroaches". She also worked as a writer's assistant on a Warner Bros movie called "The Way Back". Josie now works as a news producer in Farmington Hills and is looking to share what she learned in L.A. -- so more people are able to bring their script ideas to life. Bio In this workshop you'll learn the basics to get your sitcom comedy pilot idea onto paper. During the 3 hours you will learn how to put your idea into one sentence -- called a logline. You will also learn a basic sitcom structure that breaks down a pilot into 3 acts and includes what each act needs in order to be successful. You will work on some basic character development, beats, and break down a half-hour sitcom to make it more tangible. You will also be given examples of pilots that already exist that use this structure - so you can see it in action. The goal is to leave this workshop with your one sentence log-line - that the class will workshop together, along with a broader understanding of how to write a successful half-hour comedy pilot.
