The Pan-African Cultural Community invites you to join us for this the powerful theatrical musical play, “Message to the People: A Story of Malcolm X” on Friday, May 19 and/or Saturday, May 20, 2023 at 7p.m. in the historic theater at the Ella Austin Community Center.(1023 N Pine St, San Antonio, TX 78202) The Stage Production, “Message to the People: A Story of Malcolm X” is a historical dramatization of the life and words of Malcolm X. This is a theatrical and musical play that portrays his image and presents his words as performed by Baba Aundar Maat with original music and images of Black history. This production will take you on musical journey looking at photographs of history and reflecting on the life of Malcolm X. This stage production introduces us to the great legacy of a cultural Icon: Malcolm X also known as El Hajj Malik El Shabazz. It shows the life journey and powerful transformation of Malcolm Little to Malcolm X; spanning his childhood in Omaha, NE to adulthood as the National Spokesperson for the Nation Of Islam and founder of the Muslim Mosque Incorporated. Message to the People shows the evolution of the man himself. It sheds light on his upbringing, his travels to the Middle East and Africa while emphasizing his commitment to Black pride, self-reliance, human rights and the liberation of African peoples all over the globe. The music for “Message to the People: A Story of Malcolm X” is an original sound track. All the songs were written, arranged, and produced by Baba Aundar and performed by the Griots. This music is a collection of songs that re-emphasize the thoughts and ideas expressed in the stage production. The songs parallel the life of Malcolm X. The song “God Bless the Children” corresponds with Malcolm’s childhood, “Lock Up Lock Down” mirrors his time in prison and “African Must Unite” relates to his travel to Africa. There is a total of eight songs that correlates with the life journey of Malcolm X. A History of the Production For over twenty years, I helped to coordinate and participate in community celebrations remembering and honoring Malcolm X. Inspired by Malcolm’s life— In 2011, I planned, researched, and wrote the stage production “Message to the People: A Story of Malcolm X,” a historical dramatization that I performed for live audiences in Houston, Dallas and San Antonio Texas for over 5 years. In 2016, the stage production was made into a film, "Message to the People: A Story of MALCOLM X" produce by KuumbaNia and 9Logic. The film has been a major success with fans and supporters across the nation. Now, I want bring the story back to the stage. for two nights only on Malcolm X Celebration Weekend 2023.(Malcolm X was born May, 19, 1925) PAN-AFRICAN CULTURAL COMMUNITY The Pan African Cultural Community is a non-profit organization committed to producing cultural programs and events to educate and empower our community with the knowledge of African and African American history and culture.
