Description
Note: This training is an all day training - participants need to commit to the whole day! Mental Health First Aid is a training that targets staff of all experience levels. It can provide an effective refresher for even the most seasoned clinical staff members. It can also be especially helpful for administrative and back-office staff as well property maintenance teams of social services agencies. A client in crisis is often only a knock or a phone call away, and clinical staff are not always available as first responders. The first door needs to be the right door for clients experiencing a mental health crisis. Just as CPR helps you assist an individual having a heart attack, Mental Health First Aid helps you assist someone experiencing a mental health or substance use-related crisis. In the Mental Health First Aid course, you learn risk factors and warning signs for mental health and addiction concerns, strategies for how to help someone in both crisis and non-crisis situations, and where to turn for help. Specific topics covered include: * Depression and mood disorders * Anxiety disorders * Trauma * Psychosis * Substance Use Disorders Participants will learn to apply the Mental Health First Aid action plan to a variety of situations including: * Panic attacks * Suicidal thoughts and behaviors * Non-suicidal self-injury * Acute psychosis * Overdose or withdrawal from alcohol or drug uses * Reaction to a traumatic event A certificate of completion will be provided to all participants that complete the session. The certificate can be used to apply for CEUs for various disciples such as social work, peer certification and more. Trainer: Bill Stein of House of Hope CDC.
