Becoming an Outdoors Woman (BOW) - Utah is hosting an overnight workshop in their "Beyond BOW" series to introduce women to basic camping and kayaking. Join a fun group of women as we venture to the Colorado River at Lee's Ferry to learn the basics of kayaking in a positive and empowering environment. We will kayak from Glen Canyon Dam to Lee's Ferry and spend one night on the river. (This is a flat water stretch with occasional waves caused by passing boats.) When: June 5-6, 2023 Who: Adult women (18+ years old), No experience necessary Where: We will meet at the USU Extension office at the Washington County Fairgrounds at 8:30am on Monday, June 5. We will travel about 3 hours to Lee's Ferry where we will take a backhaul taxi upriver to Glen Canyon Dam. We will kayak 16 miles over two days and will spend the night at a campsite on the Colorado River. We will return to the USU Extension office on Tuesday, June 6, in the evening around 7:00pm (return time may vary) What: Enjoy a wonderful outdoor adventure with other women as you increase your outdoor skills and confidence. Learn about water safety, basic camping, simple kayaking skills, and other pertinent information while experiencing the beautiful Colorado River. We will provide dinner (Monday), breakfast and lunch (Tuesday). You will need to bring: a dry bag (look for option when purchasing your ticket), a change of clothes, lightweight sleeping bag, sturdy water bottle, shoes that can get wet, bathing suit, sunscreen, hat, sunglasses, personal hygiene items, sack lunch for Monday, money for dinner on Tuesday Minimum requirements: You will need to be able to walk short distances carrying your own bag get in and out of a kayak and pull it up onto shoresit for extended periods of timebe comfortable sleeping outside on the ground Please note that this activity will be geared toward beginners.
