Description
The River Series is a fund-raiser for the Maria Montessori School. We host shows at our on-campus amphitheater every spring and fall, bringing an eclectic mix of local and touring acts together for performances at a truly special place in Downtown Memphis. This Spring series is sponsored by Wiseacre Brewing, Downtown Memphis Commission, Cordelia's Market, WYXR, Tom Martin Design and NOXID NAIRB and produced by Zac Ives from Goner Records. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for kids in advance at riverseries.org. Tickets will also be available at the door the day of the show. All proceeds go to support the Maria Montessori School. Doors open at 4pm, DJ Hot Tub Eric Plumley will play records before and after sets at 5:00pm (Fake) and 6:00pm (Compulsive Gamblers). SPIDER BAGS Spider Bags is an alternative rock band from Chapel Hill, North Carolina. The band was founded by Dan McGee in 2006. Dan McGee formed Spider Bags in 2006, and the band now includes Rock Forbes on drums and Steve Oliva on bass. Four years after releasing their Merge debut, Frozen Letter, Spider Bags returned in 2018 with Someday Everything Will Be Fine, an LP that ascends to new levels of aural punch and perspective. The years that elapsed between records were crucial in enabling that progress to take place. Recorded in Memphis at Bunker Audio by Andrew McCalla (who also engineered 2012’s Shake My Head), the album leverages the limitations and glory of the Tascam 388, a vintage recording/mixing device that’s acquired a mythos via its association with legendary records by Dinosaur Jr. and others. Unlike the error-erasing editing software frontman McGee has favored in the past, the Tascam’s charms are more immediate, and it has a visceral resonance all its own. Titus Andronicus frontman Patrick Stickles has described Spider Bags as "America’s most underrated band.” LIMES TRIBUTE Limes was the long running musical project of Memphis musician and truck driver Shawn Cripps. Cripps died in December 2021 in an accident on the highway. His songs didn’t sound like anyone else’s, and he released two albums on Goner Records that developed a small cult following amongst musicians and music fans of a certain ilk. Frequent collaborator and friend Chris Owens has put together this tribute band featuring Limes bandmates Jack Yarber, Nick Ray and others to be announced. DJ Hot Tub Eric Plumley hosts the Burnt Ends show every Thursday from 5-6pm on WYXR.
