We are pleased to bring back the Meet the Author Series!
WDMS and the WDMS Alliance is collaborating with the Lamar Soutter Library at UMass Chan Medical School by hosting Dr. Mark Vonnegut, author of, "The Heart of Caring, A Life in Pediatrics".
About the Author
Dr. Mark Vonnegut is a pediatrician who has helped children and their families for the last forty years. He grew up on Cape Cod, attended Harvard Medical School where he graduated in 1979 and completed his Pediatric Internship and Residency at Massachusetts General Hospital. He has practiced pediatrics for over thirty-five years, sometimes treating his patients from birth through childhood and adolescence and later providing pediatric care after the births of their own children.
Dr. Vonnegut published an article in The New England Journal of Medicine, “Is Quality Improvement Improving Quality? A View from the Doctor’s Office,” and has published several short pieces on pediatrics and other topics in The Boston Globe and The Patriot Ledger. He wrote The Eden Express, which was first published in 1975 and is still in print. His book, Just Like Someone Without Mental Illness Only More So, was published in 2010. And his latest book, The Heart of Caring: A Life in Pediatrics, was released February 1, 2022.
In his latest book, he weaves together personal stories with larger trends in which many of the traditions of medicine are being lost due to the ongoing corporatization of the American Healthcare System. Dr. Vonnegut is passionate about developmental and behavioral health as an integral part of Primary Care Pediatrics. He says, “practicing pediatrics has been a joy and a privilege.”
