He has spent the last 15 years playing gigs around the Shenandoah Valley and West Virginia. His roots are deep in the genres of Outlaw Country and honest songwriters such as Townes Van Zandt, Waylon Jennings, Johnny Cash, David Allen Coe, Cole Chaney, Arlo McKinely, Benjamin Tod and many more. He also has a lengthy list of originals that span since he was 14 years old. Self-taught with the acoustic guitar and his writing technique, Dylan brings his own raw sound and honesty to the table and shares his deepest thoughts with the crowd. ANNIE STOKESFACEBOOK // WEBSITE If experience is the best teacher, then Annie Stokes can honestly say she's taken every course twice. And she has the songs to prove it. Raised on the seam of urban and rural living in the foothills of the eastern Blue Ridge Mountains, Annie grew up performing for others. It wasn't until she taught herself guitar at age 21 that she finally blended her loves of storytelling and singing. From there, her budding notion that she was born to share her art with others led her on a meandering journey through the Shenandoah Valley, the evangelical towns of central Virginia, the labyrinth of damp green rooms in DC, sunbaked music festivals, and dozens of rental cars and hotels on the state highways that vein from the Carolinas to Boston. Her mesmerizing lyrics and crystalline voice (described by one fan as "Alison Krauss meets Nick Cave") eventually culminated in an EP (2014) and three albums (2015, 2017, and 2021). Her most recent LP, "The One That Gets Away", was awarded "Best Americana/Country Album" at the 2022 Wammies, Washington DC's prestigious music awards ceremony. Annie's music combines traditional country and folk song structure with modern lyrical sensibilities, and her live shows invite audiences into a front-porch conversation about life. Her fifth studio project, "Wild Rose EP" -- cowritten and produced with Grammy member Austin Bello -- is set to be released in March 2023. She co-writes with her husband, bass player Will Berger. When they aren't making music, they are raising two girls and lots of hell in Virginia. BRENT FUNKHOUSER FACEBOOK // WEBSITE Brent Funkhouser’s style of achingly uplifting songwriting was born out of the river bends and mountain hollows of Virginia’s Shenandoah Valley. His songwriting displays influence from classics like Tom Petty, americana contemporaries like Jason Isbell, and Texas/red dirt songsters like Turnpike Troubadours, filtered through his mountain poet voice. The singer-songwriter has performed to hundreds of attentive audiences in nine states, opening for award-winning artists such as Judy Collins and Phil Vassar along the way. TYLER LAFEVER WEBSITE Taylor LaFever is a native of Shenandoah County, Virginia. He is a Indie-Country, Folk, and Americana singer, songwriter, and performer. Currently a candidate for a Master in Music Technology and Studio Production degree from Southern Utah University, it is likely you'll catch him at a local vineyard or brewery, he's been playing live shows in the Shenandoah Valley Region since his return from the West Coast. LaFever began writing his own songs around the age of 16. The traditional classroom where he had first learned saxophone and guitar hadn't kept his interest. He strived to develop his own sound, sing his own songs, and develop his own identity. He found that his raspy, folk voice sets him apart from the crowd and that his non-traditional music education gives him a different way at viewing songwriting. He got his chops playing on the streets in Bellingham, Washington. After finding some success there, booking shows and gaining some traction, he found himself yearning to return home to the people he loves. This has been a big year for Taylor. Moving back from Washington, beginning his Master's program, and beginning to book shows in the Valley, also anticipating the release of an EP with friend and Nashville artist Wyte Tyson. He also has been working with local artists Dylan Norquest and Kyle Ervin to produce more original music. Keep an eye out for live performances and upcoming releases! ________________________________________________________ FAQs:Is there lodging nearby? There are lots of great and affordable lodging options — from hotels and motels to camp grounds and bed & breakfast spots — just minutes away from Bright Box.
