Description
Time: 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM
Instructor: Ralph Schexnaydre Jr
In this workshop on Sunday, mixed media artist, Ralph Schexnaydre Jr will lead participants in a Cyanotype workshop to create a print using 3D objects, namely plant material, placed upon a chemically treated photo-sensitive silk fabric. Participants will learn the dry method which renders a deep blue image with bright ghost-like silhouettes and the wet method which uses spices and other household materials for a more colorful print.
The print can be incorporated into a basic mask design that can be worn as is or included in a more comprehensive mask design workshop that will be taught in 2024 as part of a mask-making workshop facilitated by Jean-Luc Toussaint and Vanessa Guy of Martinique or worn around the neck as a scarf.
Cyanotypes are one of the earliest photographic processes dating back to the 1840s. It was developed for reproducing mathematical tables and technical drawings. This simple process was adopted for photographic use in the 1870s.
Bring your own botanicals, book pages, jewelry, or anything else you want to try! All other materials will be supplied by NUNU. The price includes all supplies, materials, and frame costs.
