Presenting well known masters of Latin American guitar in the genre of song, Belleza features works by Heitor Villa-Lobos from Brazil, Ernesto Cordero from Puerto Rico, Leo Brouwer from Cuba, Elliot Carter from USA, as well as Negro Spirituals, Mexico's Manuel Ponce, Spain's Joaquín Rodrigo and Colombian composer Jaime León. BIOS Mezzo soprano Anna Tonna has been described as a “mezzo heroine who knows how to sing Rossini” by the Rossini Gesellschaft, and as “showing off her warm, secure mezzo-soprano to maximum advantage” by the New York Magazine. On the opera stage she has bowed as Rosina, Carmen, Dorabella, as well as in rare repertoires by Paisiello, Vivaldi, Mascagni, Zandonai and Giordano. She has appeared at several festivals including the Casals Festival and Festival Iberoamericano de las Artes in Puerto Rico; El Festival de Segovia, Fundación Juan March, Auditorio Nacional de España and the Museo del Romanticismo in Spain; Teatro Grattacielo, Joy in Singing, Elysium Between Two Continents, Música de Cámara, Americas Society and Hispanic Society in New York City, and the Pacific Music Festival in Japan. Of note among her numerous recitals are appearances at the Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall, the St. Anton Palace in Valletta (Malta), The Palacio Nacional de Ájuda in Lisbon, Teatro 1793 at Villa Adlrovandi Mazzacorati in Bologna, and the ElbPhilharmonie in Hamburg. He has played various concerti with orchestra and has participated in numerous chamber music recitals with singers and instrumentalists. Mr. Roldán also taught ESL and Spanish GED at CUNY for many years. He loves teaching and sharing the joy that music, language and literature brings to our lives. He is a firm believer in that the highest quality education (be it in music and the arts, languages or in the core curriculum) should be available to all regardless of economic or ethnic background. He teaches at the Mannes Preparatory Division, Lehman College, the Academy of St. Joseph Afterschool Program and the Portfolio School Afterschool Program.
