Description
Lil Durk Tour Dates Lil Durk has emerged as one of the most popular hip-hop stars of the genre. As the Capo of OTF, the Chicagoan has proven that he's just as adept in the business world as he is at performing his craft, skills that helped him land a contract with Def Jam Records. And though his popularity came with a fair share of tragedy, Lil Durk is proof positive that anyone can make their dreams come true, if they work hard at them. Lil Durk Background After a rough upbringing in the Englewood district of Chicago, Durk Banks -- the rapper who would, eventually, become Lil Durk -- exploded onto the hip hop scene in 2011, when he became affiliated with controversial rapper Chief Keef's label. Despite early misconceptions to the contrary, he was never signed to Chief Keef's label, instead billing himself as an affiliate of the fellow Chicago native as his popularity began to rise. Lil Durk made waves of his own with his hit singles, Sneak Dissin' and Imma Hitta. It was only after the release of L's Anthem that he was signed to a joint venture with Def Jam Recordings. Signed to the Streets was later named one of the best mixtapes of 2013 by Rolling Stone magazine. At this point in his career, Lil Durk was quickly beginning to outshine his fellow Chicago natives, his label mates and even his label affiliates. And he proved that he had staying power when, in 2014, XXL Magazine named him to their prestigious Freshman Class. Lil Durk was made a member alongside a particularly prestigious group of rappers that also included today's luminaries, like Chance the Rapper. Other luminaries on the 2014 list included Rich Homie Quan, Isaiah Rashad, Ty Dolla $ign, Kevin Gates, Troy Ave, Vic Mensa, Lil Bibby, Jon Connor, Jarren Benton, and August Alsina. He continued making waves in 2015 by releasing his official debut, Remember My Name, via Def Jam. With sold-out shows across the country, and a slew of critical acclaim, Lil Durk is poised to be one of the most famous rappers of the 21st century. Lil Durk Personal Life Despite his success in the music business, Lil Durk's life has been marred by tragedy. In March 2015, his manager, OTF Chino, was shot and killed in Chicago. He was only 24 at the time of his death. The death of Durk's manager came only one year after the death of his cousin, OTF Nunu. Less than two months after Durk's manager was killed, Durk's labelmate -- Chinx Drugs -- was shot and killed in Queens, N.Y.
