Description

Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons has produced some of the most iconic music of the '60s. The band spent its formative years immersed in the American rock and pop scene of the period, though it has also dabbled in disco and soul. Frankie Valli took the name The Four Seasons after a failed audition at a bowling alley with the same name. The story of the band was adapted into the Tony Award-winning jukebox musical Jersey Boys and then a 2014 film by Clint Eastwood. The Wonder Who? As a young up-and-coming singer, Frankie Valli formed his first band, The Variatones, with guitarist Tommy DeVito in 1954. After several name changes, the band settled on The Four Lovers and released a series of singles, including You're the Apple of My Eye. The band failed to gain much traction on the charts, however, until it underwent a shakeup in personnel and record label. Now known as The Four Seasons, the band released its successful debut album Sherry and 11 Others in September 1962. Two of the album's singles, Sherry and Big Girls Don't Cry, reached No. 1 on the US charts. The band subsequently produced two more No. 1 singles: Walk Like a Man in 1963 and Rag Doll in 1964, while Let's Hang On! in 1965 reached No. 3. For a period of time, The Four Seasons was one of the best-selling musical acts in the world. The Four Seasons would produce one more chart-topping hit: the 1975 single December 1963 (Oh, What a Night), though Frankie Valli himself would be the lead singer on the best-selling title song to the hit 1978 film Grease
