White Whale is ecstatic to present an IN-STORE event and signing with David Sedaris in celebration of the paperback release of Happy-Go-Lucky! Please read this event information carefully and in full, as it contains very important details. Since this event takes place in our bookstore and seating is limited, ticketing has three tiers: Seated Tickets: A seat for the in-store event, includes a paperback copy of Happy-Go-Lucky, and gives admittance to Group A of the signing line after the reading. Standing Room Tickets: Standing room only for the in-store event, includes a paperback copy of Happy-Go-Lucky, and gives admittance to Group B of the signing line after the reading. Priority Signing Line Only Tickets, with book: This does NOT include access to the in-store event. It is for the signing line ONLY, which will line up outside the store. Each signing line only ticket with preordered book will guarantee a spot in Group C of the signing line after the reading. WALK-UPS without book purchase (unlimited): Free; it is not necessary to purchase a book or have a ticket, but preordered books will get priority, so without a preordered book ticket, you will be in Group D of the signing line. David will sign anything he's written, including articles and older books, so you're welcome to bring your own items from home. Mr. Sedaris will stay and sign for every person in line, no matter how late the signing goes. There will be copies of Happy-Go-Lucky, along with books from the backlist, for purchase at the event and as you wait in line. But preordered books are extremely helpful for us to keep the signing smooth and organized, as well as to budget numbers. Several of David Sedaris's other books are also available as Add-Ons at checkout. You will receive your preordered book(s) when you check in at the event on June 8th. There is to be NO photography, recording, or video for the entire evening, reading, or signing. Limit two tickets per customer. There are no refunds for this event. If you are unable to attend, you can still get a signed and personalized copy of Happy-Go-Lucky by visiting our website and placing an order by 10am on June 8th. ABOUT THE BOOK: When the pandemic hits, like so many others, David Sedaris is stuck in lockdown, unable to tour and read for audiences, the part of his work he loves most. To cope, he walks for miles through a nearly deserted city, smelling only his own breath. He vacuums his apartment twice a day, fails to hoard anything, and contemplates how sex workers and acupuncturists might be getting by during quarantine. In Happy-Go-Lucky, David Sedaris once again captures what is most unexpected, hilarious, and poignant about these recent upheavals, personal and public, and expresses in precise language both the misanthropy and desire for connection that drive us all. ABOUT THE AUTHOR: David Sedaris is the author of twelve previous books, including most recently, Carnival of Snackery, The Best of Me, and Calypso. He is a regular contributor to The New Yorker and BBC Radio 4. In 2019, he was inducted into the American Academy of Arts and Letters. He is the recipient of the Thurber Prize for American Humor, the Jonathan Swift International Literature Prize for Satire and Humor, and the Terry Southern Prize for Humor.
