Description
Conflict is an essential and natural part of life. Although we often experience conflict as challenging and painful, it actually can be generative, creative, and life-giving. In order for this to be possible, we have to intentionally move towards conflict with humility, self-awareness, mutual respect, honesty, and care. Most of us are unable to receive conflict as an opportunity for growth because we were never taught the skills necessary, and because our culture, legal system, and justice system do not support a healing-centered approach to conflict. Therefore, when conflict comes up, we often communicate in aggressive or defensive ways, modeled by our caregivers, schools, and society. Moving through conflict well is possible - and is in fact vital for collective liberation. Join this workshop to level-up your communication skills and transform your relationship to conflict. You will learn: - tools to hold yourself through moments of activation/trigger - tips & skills for communicating when conflict is present - a basic framework for understanding and responding to harm This might be for you if: - you resonate with this description and want to learn more - when conflict comes up, you feel like you have to either "take a side" or "stay out of it" - you want more skills for becoming aware of your own responses to conflict, and working through inner conflicts - there is unaddressed conflict in your creative/radical projects, visions, and communities - you long to be able to approach conflict with a sense of curiosity and hope rather than dread - you are ready to look at and transform your own patterns in order to transform the world ABOUT THE FACILITATOR: Lux Gypsum(they/them) is a queer, non-binary community-builder and culture-shifter offering their gifts at the intersection of interpersonal and cultural liberation. Lux has been holding regular workshops and community containers for interpersonal skill-building through their business Healing Rising for over a year, after studying communication and consent for over 6 years. They also serve the community as a mediator, educator, coach, facilitator, and consultant, focusing on conflict, consent and communication with a transformative justice lens. In addition to running their own business, Lux works part-time for Blue Heart Action, helping resources flow from financially-secure community members to local grassroots organizations that are building the political power of low-income communities and communities of color. When Lux isn't grappling with large world issues on a fractal scale, they are likely cooking up a storm in the kitchen, on a hike in the woods, chilling with their cat Bambi, dancing ecstatically, cultivating queer community, or singing with their social-justice-centered song collective, The People's Echo.
