Beuys created the term "social sculpture" to embody his understanding of art's potential to transform society. As a work of art, a social sculpture includes human activity that strives to structure and shape society or the environment. The central idea of a social sculptor is an artist who creates structures in society using language, thoughts, actions, and objects." Most know that the NUNU Arts and Culture Collective is an arts education organization that works to encourage the development of artistic talents, skills, knowledge, and business savvy by connecting artists with other artists, businesses, organizations, and programs. It serves as a stage/platform/gallery for creative living by facilitating community, economic, and artistic/cultural development,.but what does all of that actually mean and how does the organization do what it does? Part information gathering and part networking opportunity, these monthly events are also somewhat of a support group for artists, organizations, and communities. George Marks along with Executive Director Peg Ramier and a variety of NUNU Team leaders and partners will not only discuss how they do what we do and the resulting successes but also the challenges associated with facilitating art and cultural programming in rural Louisiana.
