NORWALK, CT — Two men were arrested by Norwalk police Monday after they tried to ship more than two pounds of marijuana, packed in a karaoke machine, through the mail, according to authorities. Rickell Demetrius, 38, of New Windsor, New York, and Cornelius Medas, 44, of Bridgeport, were charged with a host of narcotics violations, including possession of a controlled substance within 1,500 feet of a school, following the discovery. According to police, an employee of an unnamed local package shipping business in South Norwalk alerted police when the employee suspected the two suspects were trying to send "a large quantity" of weed out of the country. "The investigators responded to the business and confirmed that approximately 2 pounds of marijuana were hidden inside of a karaoke machine," Norwalk police said. The pot was seized, and Demetrius and Medas were apprehended in the parking lot of the business. In addition to the marijuana, police also seized about $2,000 in cash from the pair. Both were held in lieu of bail of $20,000 each, and are scheduled to appear in court on Feb. 19.
