NEW HAVEN, CT — Police are investigating two shootings over the weekend. Four residents were hospitalized in the shootings and are expected to recover, according to police. A Friday afternoon shooting happened outside a Shelton Avenue barbershop around 12:50 p.m. Officers responded to a ShotSpotter alert and a 911 call of gunfire in the area of Shelton Avenue between Bassett Street and Huntington Street in the Newhallville neighborhood. Officers arrived to find a gunshot victim in a commercial parking lot. The 43-year-old New Haven man had been shot in both legs. An ambulance transported the victim with non-life-threatening injuries to Yale New Haven Hospital. About two hours later, a second gunshot victim arrived by private vehicle at the hospital. The 29-year-old New Haven man had a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to the leg. On Shelton Avenue, officers found evidence of gunfire in the road. Investigators believe the victims were shot by a gunman in a gray Honda traveling north on Shelton Avenue. In a separate incident, two people and their dog were shot Sunday. Just before 7:00 p.m., New Haven patrol officers responded to a ShotSpotter alert of gunfire in the area of Orchard Street and George Street. Police dispatch told arriving officers there were two gunshot victims at a house on nearby Gilbert Avenue. One victim had been shot in the leg and arm. A second victim had gunshot wounds to the hand, arm, and face. Ambulances transported the 17- and 18-year-old victims with non-life-threatening injuries to Yale New Haven Hospital. Police believe the victims were walking their pet dog. As the teens walked south on Orchard Street, a gunman in a northbound black car fired multiple gunshots at them. The teenagers and the dog were struck by gunfire. A family member transported their dog to an animal hospital where it died. Investigation into both incidents are ongoing, and there is no evidence the two incidents are related. Anyone with information is asked to contact the New Haven Police Department at 203-946-6304.
