Originally going by the name Restive, MORTALIS was formed in early 2015 by Highschool friends Sergio Montes de Oca(Lead Guitar/Vocals), Vincente ‘Grim’ Avalos(Bass}, and Luis Velasquez(Drums). Debuting to a crowd of 250 people all shoved into their bassists’ backyard the band quickly became a household name in the local scene. With the addition of Austin Spencer(Rhythm Guitar) 2 years later in 2017, Mortalis was pushed to new heights musically and sonically, adding a completely new layer to already established songs and providing a darker, heavier dynamic to the latter half of material in their debut album. MORTALIS is heavily influenced by a variety of different bands and genres both metal and non-metal alike with bands such as Deep Purple, K-ON!!, Metallica, Rush, Annihilator, Led Zepplin, Buddy Rich, Anthrax, Blue Oyster Cult and many others. The unlikely meeting of these very different music tastes has created a band whose unique sound is reminiscent of the early days of thrash, and has helped in defining itself from the horde of one note punk and metal bands crowding the LA scene. Aside from their unique sound, other achievements include their debut album finding a physical presence in Japan, full global streaming/album sales reaching countries as far as Russia, Brazil, Iran, Germany, and Ukraine, and winning the first round of 2022's Los Angeles Wacken battle of the bands.
