Afrofuturism: The History, the Arts, and the Culture Join Substantial Magazine at the North Carolina Museum of Art for a panel discussion and networking event on Thursday, May 4 at 5:30 pm. Facilitated by Grammy-nominated musician Pierce Freelon, the panel will also include CEO of ArtSpace, Carly Jones; Dean and Professor of Sociology at Shaw University, Dr. Valerie Ann Johnson; visual artist Fabian Williams; and ArtSpace HBCU Student in Residence, Jalen Jackson. RSVP to this event includes free admission to special exhibition “Ruth E. Carter: Afrofuturism in Costume Design” from 7 pm to 8 pm. All attendees are eligible to enter to win a signed Ruth E. Carter exhibition poster. Doors open at 5.30pm for networking and light refreshments. Panel discussion from 6-7pm. Ruth E. Carter: Afrofuturism in Costume Design exhibition and NCMA Store open until 8pm.
