Description

In conjunction with our interactive exhibition, Brick X Brick: A Billion Pounds of Cultivation, TONE invites you to view the weekly screening of High on the Hog: How African American Cuisine Transformed America. Each Thursday, from April 13th-27th, starting at 7:00 p.m. we will watch the Netflix series together, as it highlights the relationship that Black folks have had with food throughout our time in America, and tracing our dishes from Africa to Texas. “Black food is American food.” The soul we added into the greens, mac and cheese, and cornbread, shifted the American culture. Taking crops from the motherland and creating new dishes, shifted the American tastebud. Birthing flavors that have never been seen before and inventing meals from scratch, shifted the American standard. Throughout the series, we will have the opportunity to learn about food as a part of our culture and have conversations immediately following the screenings to open up about our take-aways from the show and around our personal relationship with food. So we welcome you to join us as we watch High on the Hog: How African American Cuisine Transformed America, each Thursday. See you soon, at TONE HQ.
