At 75 miles in length running between 7,000 and 11,000 feet elevation in the Toiyabe Range of central Nevada, the Toiyabe Crest Trail is the longest continuous trail in the state. Despite its status as a National Recreation Trail, the TCT has not seen maintenance in more than 40 years and is completely overgrown along most of its route. Five years ago, mountain biker, writer, and "trail whisperer" Kurt Gensheimer began the quest of resurrecting the 32-mile non-Wilderness portion of this unique trail, mile by mile, with nothing more than loppers and a reciprocating saw.
Hear the story of this grassroots effort to bring back an iconic and historic trail in one of the most remote regions of North America.
