Description
THE SALT AND PEPPER ROOTS MUSIC CELEBRATION Presents SEASON 7 FINALE BUNDLE featuring Tinsley Ellis and Jimbo Mathis (Squirrel Nut Zippers) As the Salt & Pepper Series moves into the finale of SEASON 7, it is honored by the continued support of the Alabama State Council on the Arts, and the National Endowment for the Arts, a federal agency. The music series is presented quarterly at UNA'S The Mane Room in partnership with The Music Preservation Society, the presenters of the annual W.C.Handy Festival, and The Alabama Folklife Association (AFA), a partner of the Alabama State Council on the Arts (ASCA). Season 7 of the Salt & Pepper is continuing to focus on Traditional and Roots Music and its influence on the Muscle Shoals Music Industry's contributions to the American Soundtrack. Gospel, Soul, Blues, Country, Rock and Roll, and Folk Music are at the roots of the American Soundtrack and very much a part of the Sound of the Shoals. Russell Gulley, a long time AFA board member and director of the series, along with associates, Dick Cooper, Bob Garfrerick and Tori Bailey are proud to announce the finale of Season 7 on April. 27th featuring the Acoustic Songs and Stories of Blues/Rock legend Tinsley Ellis and continued on July 27th with the Blues based Americana sounds of Jimbo Mathis (Squirrel Nut Zippers). Tinsley Ellis Short Bio - Acoustic Songs & Stories Georgia troubadour Tinsley Ellis has been immersed in music his whole life. Born in Atlanta 1957 and raised in southern Florida, he acquired his first guitar at age seven, inspired by seeing The Beatles perform on The Ed Sullivan Show. Like many kids his age, Ellis discovered the blues through the back door of British Invasion bands like The Yardbirds, Cream and The Rolling Stones as well as Southern rockers like the Allman Brothers Band. 20 albums (and millions of miles traveled) later on record labels such as Alligator and Capricorn, Ellis has become an elder statesman of the blues world. With his new project Tinsley Ellis - Acoustic Songs And Stories, Ellis performs many of his most popular songs (plus delta blues and classics by artists like Gregg Allman, Bob Dylan and Leo Kottke) on his 1937 National Steel and 1969 Martin D-35. Ellis weaves the music together with interesting and sometimes ribald stories from over 40 years of a life spent on stages and in motels and truck stops. Ellis shows no signs of slowing down and is headed your way with his newest and perhaps most unique project. The April. 27th presentation will also feature Earl "Guitar" Williams, Blues artist from Bessemer AL. and the July 27th show will open with a performance by Soul Singer, Mary Gresham. Doors open at 6:00 pm. at The Mane Room with performances at 7:00 pm. Tickets at the door will be $25.00. Advance tickets will be available starting March 28th for $20.00 at Counts Brothers Music in Muscle Shoals, Ye Ole General Store in Florence, The Alabama Music Hall of Fame and WZZA Radio in Tuscumbia along with Muscle Shoals Sound Studio in Sheffield.
