Description

Help us break in WestArt with a warm evening of great music! Tom Becker heard Claire Holley in the hill country of Texas at Laity Lodge last year and began scheming a way to share her bright presence and skilled performance with the rest of us here in Lancaster. Fast forward: She's on a small eastern tour that brings her and two fine Philadelphia musicians for a special evening. We've got Splits & Giggles ice cream coming, so bring the kids of all ages and consider this dessert time. About kids: Under 18 free with a paid adult; Please sign them up for keeping a count. There's no need to use their names. More About Claire and the BandClaire Holley grew up listening to her Dad's records and soaking up her grandmother's jazz piano playing as a little girl in the deep south. She began writing songs in college, but it was while living in North Carolina that she started getting regular airplay on WUNC's Back Porch Music and embraced a life in music. Claire's songs are filled with “simple truths and timeless imagery that cannot be worn away with repeated listenings” says No Depression, and Huffington Post called Claire's voice "achingly beautiful." Her music and songwriting have been featured on NPR's Weekend Edition as well as in films, theater, and television shows. She lives in Los Angeles and enjoys a variety of collaborations, including playing with her son--a highly skilled drummer--as much as she can before he heads off to college! Josh Stamper is equally at home in the jazz, classical, avant-garde and indie/alternative worlds. His work reflects a deep commitment to transdisiplinary collaboration. An orchestral arranger, a studio conductor, and a session musician for Concord Records, Lionsgate Films, and Mason Jar Music (among others) Stamper has enjoyed collaborations with filmmakers, dancers, visual artists, poets and architects. Joshua’s own work has been commissioned by the Grammy-winning chamber choir, The Crossing, and includes collaborations with the Daedalus Quartet, Mantra Percussion, and the Philadelphia architecture firm, KieranTimberlake. He is a recipient of the Lincoln City Fellowship (which is how he met Claire, whose husband was also a Lincoln City Fellow!). Christopher McDonald fell in love with music and audio recording at a young age and later discovered a love of film making. His work with his band, Cuddle Magic on the album BATH is a document of Cuddle Magic playing a lot like they did when they started out, re-inventing tropes of 21st-century pop song structure with the quietest acoustic sounds. This album is also, simply put, the sound of six people in the same room breathing and listening together. Claire became a huge fan by way of the song "Hurt A Little" which she used to score some Super 8 footage from her childhood.
