The Olmsted Brothers' 1903 report did not include West Seattle because it was still outside Seattle's city limits. But when the neighborhood was annexed in 1907, Olmsted was hired back to add to his original park and boulevard plan. He recommended connecting boulevards between the City's east side and West Seattle. In addition to the boulevards that were never built, he recommended parks along Longfellow Creek and what became Delridge Playfield. On this walk you will learn about the boulevards that were never built, and what evidence is still to be found of the Olmsted Brothers' recommendations for the Delridge neighborhood. About the Delridge tour: Meet at 26th Avenue SW & SW Yancy Street in the Delridge neighborhood. This walk is not a loop. Distance is approximately 2.5 miles to the end point at 26th & Graham (one-way). Tour participants can walk back to the start on SW 26th Street, or catch the H Line bus at Graham & Delridge Way back and return within a couple of blocks of the original the starting point. Tour participants are responsible for their own bus fare. The tour will last approximately 2 1/2 hours (one-way) - please allow for extra time if you intend to walk both directions.
