Seneca Street Community Development Corporation (SSCDC) is a local nonprofit located in the Seneca Babcock neighborhood of Buffalo, one of the city’s most economically challenged neighborhoods. Most families live below the poverty line and many children struggle to graduate from high school. The neighborhood is also classified as a “food desert,” meaning there is a lack of easy access to fresh whole foods.
The SSCDC is changing this cycle for the children of Seneca Babcock by working to improve the educational, economic, and social opportunities and outcomes for the youth and adults of the area. Our After School, Teen, and Summer Youth Programs, provided free of charge, serve more than 100 children ages 4-18 and their families. The children receive mentoring, tutoring enrichment activities, and healthy, homemade meals and snacks.
If families had to pay for these services, most of the children would be unable to attend. Also, families are uplifted through our Community Garden, transportation improvements efforts, and affordable housing initiatives.
