For details of the event go here. Dance to live drumming, singing and tuned percussion by Sisters of the Drum. The Cathedral at Love Farm offers a place for free form-dancing. Move in any way you wish to a musical set that will carry you through an experience of gradual opening, energy building, release, integration, and rest. Sisters of the Drum is a new student performance group. This all female percussion ensemble focuses on the sacred aspects of drumming and music and is inspired by documented female drummers depicted throughout history. The women in this group actively embody leadership, sisterhood, and the feminine divine. The Sisters of the Drum have been working for the last 6 months on creating original percussion pieces to accompany ecstatic dance events. They have utilized the teaching of the 5 Rhythms to embody a unified dance and musical experience. We begin with a short centering practice and a chance to share names. There will be an introduction to the ecstatic dance form and some warm-up movements. Then we dance! Sisters of the Drum will play and improvise for 75 minutes to the 5 Rhythms developed by Gabrielle Roth: Flowing, Staccato, Chaos, Lyrical, and Stillness. We will move or rest however we are inspired. When the playing is finished there will be time for optional sharing about anything that happened during the dance. Then we close and return to our lives, alive to the rhythms of life. Any form of dancing or movement is allowed as long as it is safe for everyone. All people of all sizes, types, and ages are welcome. No dance experience or skill needed.
