Description

The Remote and Live Human Library will be held on Saturday, May 20th from 1:00 - 4:00 pm hosted live from the Human Rights Education Institute or from the comfort of your own home. The Human Library™ is designed to build a positive framework for open conversations that can challenge stereotypes and prejudices. It is an opportunity to open individuals’ minds, and help them better understand the misconceptions they may have of others. The Human Library™ is a place where real people are on loan to readers, where difficult questions are expected and appreciated, and where lifetime curiosity can be resolved. Books are ordinary people like you and I, who have a unique story to tell. They could be homeless, a refugee, a recovering alcoholic, an individual with a disability, or a parent of a disabled child. Books could include someone with anxiety, bipolar, or a history of trauma, a member of law enforcement, someone with a chronic illness, an African American, a transgender individual...the list is infinite. The Human Library™ gives the opportunity to help community members make sense of an individual’s life story they may have never had the opportunity to explore. It also helps people understand uncertainties they may have developed over a lifetime of unanswered questions. The Human Library™ is an educational opportunity, bringing in real people to tell their story and answer questions about their journey along the way. For our May 20th Human Library event we will have the following human Books: Live Reads (in-person conversation) "Atheist", "Baha'i", "Queer in the Military", "Immigrant", "Gay Law Enforcement", "Diabetic", "Trans Man", "Autistic", "Ankylosing Spondylitis", "New Mexican", "Grief", "Craniopharyngioma" Remote Read (remote conversation) "Transwoman"
